Countryscape worked with the Forest of Bowland AONB to develop a ‘Sense of Place Toolkit’ for local businesses. The aim of the toolkit is to help businesses understand the special qualities of the AONB and to use these qualities in order to develop and promote their own product – as well as contributing to sustainable tourism. The toolkit comprises a printed guidance booklet and accompanying CD-ROM. Countryscape was responsible for editing the toolkit into plain English, as well as design/production of the finished resource. Subsequent work has involved developing and facilitating a series of training workshops, aiming to raise awareness of sense of place and its applications among local businesses and countryside officers. This work has required a detailed understanding of the AONB and its special qualities.
