Countryscape developed an interactive map for GMG Regional Digital, a subsidiary of the Guardian Media Group. The application was custom-made for Manchester Online (the former website of the Manchester Evening News) to provide visitors with an innovative and engaging means of exploring the city. The map enabled users to freely navigate Manchester city centre and access information by clicking on features.
The map was also designed so that it could be customised in-house, enabling the client to produce a range of different maps from a single application. In this case, website editors were able to add, remove and reposition map features; create links to news stories and reviews; plot routes and produce maps based on different themes - such as hotels, restaurants, shops, sports facilities, theatres and cinemas, etc. The map was linked to the Manchester Online content management system, allowing it to be easily updated by the client.
