Countryscape designed and produced the Kinder Reservoir and Railway publication: a richly illustrated history of the construction of the famous waterworks and its associated railway, located near Hayfield in the Peak District National Park. The publication was authored by local historians Derek Brumhead, Ken Rangeley and Jean Rangeley, who were closely involved in its final development.
The publication tells the story of the reservoir: a colourful saga involving two Acts of Parliament, severe geological difficulties, the death of the consulting engineer, numerous lawsuits and large sums of money! It was designed to a high standard and illustrated using a unique collection of photographs, maps and sketches, together with excerpts from historic documents, newspaper reports and other sources.
The publication was produced as an A4 size soft-back book, spanning 92 pages and printed using Forest Stewardship Council (FSC)-certified recycled paper and vegetable oil-based ink. It was very well received by both its authors and readership, and was successful in wining the Occasional Publications Award (2009), as hosted by the Association for Industrial Archaeology.
